The Devil Wears a Gown
She cast her spells on me,
Then loosed her claws in glee.
Now anyone can see,
I just thank God to be free.
I didn't know what to do
When she said she wouldn't stay.
I couldn't tell what was true
When she turned and walked away.
I didn't see anything
I could do to change her mind.
I couldn't block out that sting
That nearly drove me blind.
I wouldn't have thought this world
Could ever take me down.
But that was before I found
The devil wears a gown.
Can't recall what caught my eye
When she walked into my life.
Can't say what spurred me try
To win her for my wife.
I just know the things she did
Liked to drive me half insane.
I lost myself in a painful skid
No penance could contain.
I wouldn't have thought
This cold dark world could take me down.
But that was before I learned
The devil wears a gown.
She cast her spells on me,
Then loosed her claws in glee.
Now anyone can see,
I just thank God to be free!
I thank God to be free!
I warn you now to guard your back
If you hear she's passing by.
I guarantee your heart will crack
If you give her half a try.
I'd hate to see you face the traps
That nearly did me in.
Who really knows what other straps
She'd use in her dark sin?
I wouldn't have thought this world
Could ever take me down.
But that was before I found
The devil wears a gown!
The devil wears a gown!
She's dancing all around!
Watch out if she's in your town!
Yeah! The devil wears a gown!
